Don’t Miss Out! How to Showcase Previous Projects on Your LinkedIn Profile

LinkedIn has become more interactive and visual to maintain their status as the top social media site for professionals. Users can now add visual content like photographs, presentations and even videos to their profile pages. This may seem like a benefit only to creative types, but if you’ve worked on any major industry-related projects, this is a great way to showcase them and add some depth to your resume.

You can upload images, videos and presentations directly into the summary, work experience and specifically relate your project to a position that you hold or have held. Be sure to include descriptions of the work and your contributions! Include a timeline: when this project started, when it was completed or if it is still ongoing. Viewers will be more likely to check out current projects. This is a great way to show your expertise by providing viewers evidence that you know your stuff.

The visuals appear as thumbnails on your profile page, directly beneath the specific job or work summary you designate.

One cool feature: if you’re connected to any of your collaborators on LinkedIn (and of course you should be!), adding their names here will create a hyperlink to their LinkedIn profile. It’s a great way to show off your team-player spirit and expand your network on LinkedIn.

Website designers and graphic artists can not only show off the improvements they made to a project, they can highlight their own original work. Software developers and designers can upload demonstrations of their products. Have you produced a webinar? Put it up for all to see. And any employee can create and present charts or graphics that show exactly how he or she saved their employer money—always a key component for job seekers to display.

LinkedIn has traditionally been considered a professional network for white-collar types, and the visual display has always been text-heavy and limited in color. Taking advantage of this new feature is a great way to stand out, whether you’re looking for a new job or trying to establish yourself as an expert in your field!

At Triumph, we are experts in our field: matching the right people with the right jobs. If you’re ready to make a change in the new year, give us a call or contact us anytime.
