How Video Interviewing Can Reduce Time-To-Hire

Video interviewing is no longer the wave of the future—it’s one of the hottest uses of technology right now. Why is it becoming so popular? Because it can help you save time, lower costs and reduce your time-to-hire. How?

First, understand how it works. There are basically two types of video interviewing:

  1. Live video calls: Using Skype or a similar program, employers use a webcam to talk to job seekers. This replaces a phone screen.
  2. Asynchronous video recordings: The employer sends text-based interview questions to candidates who then record video answers and submit them back to the employer.

Live video calls won’t save you as much time or money as asynchronous video recordings. This type of interview:

  • Allows for easier scheduling. It makes the process very flexible, especially when dealing with multiple candidates and multiple managers or interviewers. Candidates can record responses whenever they choose and don’t have to worry about finding a private place where they can speak freely at their current place of employment. And everyone on your hiring team can view the pre-recorded responses according to their own schedules.
  • Saves money. You don’t need to pay travel costs for out-of-town candidates. And screening applicants in advance this way means only the most qualified talent warrants the time and expense of a face-to-face meeting.
  • Saves time. You can probably view 10 video screens in the time it would take to do one phone screen.
  • Enhances the selection process. It’s easier to weed out candidates that look good on paper but don’t have the personal qualities you’re seeking. Your hiring managers can more effectively select the best candidates to bring in for a face-to-face.
  • Helps you hire more effectively. You and your team will all be seeing the same person and hearing the same answers, allowing you to compare candidate responses and review your notes and impressions together.
  • Reduces discrimination. Using this technique provides a structured interview setting where each candidate answers the same questions, thereby reducing discrimination.

One-way video interviews can help you be more productive. They’re convenient and economical. And they allow you to see non-verbal cues from candidates, which you wouldn’t pick up on a phone screen. If you’d like to know more, call the team at Triumph. We’d love to share our expertise with you.
