How To Answer Job Interview Questions About Your Ethics.

In an attempt to attract and retain great people, employers are focusing now on identifying people who fit their company’s culture, mission and philosophies. As part of that effort, you may be asked questions designed to determine how ethical you are.

It can be stressful to know that you are being judged on your ethics, but you want to impress the interviewer enough to get the job offer. So prepare thoroughly, remain honest and consistent you should do fine.

Consider Your Industry

What ethical dilemmas are particular to your field? Try to anticipate and prepare for the types of questions you are likely to be asked. Will be securing and safeguarding technical data? Conducting technical audit? Working on an IT project that includes sensitive information? Consider circumstances in your career when you may have been called to rely upon your ethics to make decisions at work.

Prepare Concrete Examples

You may be given scenarios and asked how you would handle them. Take your time and answer honestly. You may be asked questions which force you to choose between what you know to be ethical and telling the interviewer what you believe he wants to hear. For example, your interviewer could ask what you would do if your superior asked you to falsify documents. Always opt for the honest answer rather than trying to guess what the interviewer wants.

Remain Consistent

Don’t be surprised if the interview questions seem repetitive. That is by design. The intent is to ask variations of the same questions to try to identify any inconsistencies. Don’t let this worry you. Just be honest and consistent. The honest person doesn’t have to remember a story.

Keep in mind that if a company is asking you about ethics up front, it’s likely that it is a company with operates with integrity could be just the place you want to work.
